The Road to Inactivity is Paved with Good Intentions 08-22-2005, Ian 'anyuzer' Reid |
![]() Man.
I seem to start more and more updates with that statement. But then, on the other hand, it always seems to fit my needs. Two months ago now, when I threw that last post up, I was, uh, 'jonesed' to say the least. Seriously, I was pumped. I was ready for my glorious revival. My semi marginal, triumphant, return. Then, I walked into my job which was finally slowing down a bit, and found out the company went under. Well, basically went under anyways. So, twenty odd employees joined the ranks of the bitter and unemployed. This sucked in a few ways. First, the fact that I had sacrificed an entire year to the company and project. Second, the fact that I had a pregnant wife who was unwillingly tossed into the life of vagrancy. So while I may have been used to it, she was, errr, less than pleased? Yeah. Anyways, jump forward two months. Things aren't going too bad now (though 'bad' is a relative term), then I get a message on msn from a friend: "Dude, check out your forums." My forums? Oh, right, I have a website that has quickly been becoming the red headed bastard child of my life. And, at this point, I have to say a small point of thanks to the tool who decided to freak out and spam my forums. You see, what had happened is, on the forums I used to moderate, as well as these forums, myself and any other moderators/administrators used to have a, uh, how shall I say it, good-natured sort of policy on inappropriate messages. A policy that involved sort of 'grief-editing' them if you will. You know, immaturely changing things like: "Hey, check out this site so I can make money! Link. Link. Link. Link!" To, "Just being me makes me cry inside every day of my life..." You know, that sort of pointless tripe. Anyways, afterwards, this proceeded to turn into a full out war as the man in question, returned to the basically inactive anyuzer.com forums, and proceeded to spam the hell out of them with clever aliases such as the ever witty 'gayuser' and 'D0nK3yFukkEr'. Right... Albeit, while I was disappointed that he didn't come up with anything like 'OnyxGayven', I had to see it as a mixed blessing. It made me say: "fuck! If I had been paying more attention, and actually had a forum that was active, and wasn't a complete tool, that bastard would've never known what hit him!" And then, I like, wept. Well, you know, on the inside at least. I miss the days of being able to say: "anyuzer.com harbors the most hardcore design discussion about MMOs out there". Instead, now I sort of grumble out things like: "well... I used to have a website. And, like, it used to be cool. Hey, screw you!" There is no real need for this site, and I know if I attempt, I'll only fail again. But damn, one can never fault me for lack of trying. So, from this day forward, August 22nd, Year of the Warcraft, I'll make one last dying attempt for consistency. That said, all reality in check, I am having a little anyuzer soon enough, and while I can promise no posts about it, and no daddy babble, or pointless baby pictures, I wouldn't be surprised if the role of parenthood sucks me into its void completely for at least twenty years, where I will then revive and write posts like: "Damn whippersnappers. Back in my day, we fucking had death penalties in MMOs. None of this pansy graveyard crap! And hell, it wasn't all about elf-porn either. It had meaning!" |
